I am Jon Adams, my wife Laurie and I own Breathe Salt and Sauna in Johnson Creek. I suffer from allergies and asthma and have all of my life. When I was younger, I needed to undergo Cortizone shots to get my allergies and asthma under control. I had a nebulizer, (breathing machine) took prescription medications, and used inhalers as well. I would try anything to bring relief. My mother would put me in the shower for long periods of time letting the steam open my airways. I did not like to be outdoors, and cutting the grass was out of the question. My allergies and asthma have improved as the years have gone by, or maybe I have just adapted better to it. Regardless, I still suffer.
In October of 2017, Laurie was doing some research and told me about Salt Therapy (Halotherapy). I thought, how can that work? Well, in November my Asthma acted up like it always does in the fall of the year. I knew I needed to go in for a breathing treatment because I was losing lung capacity. I remembered what Laurie was telling me about Halotherapy and decided to try that first.
At my first Halotherapy appointment, I sat back in a zero gravity chair; I inhaled as deep as I could to take advantage of the salt being blown into the room. As the 45 min session was drawing to a close, I could feel myself taking deeper breaths from when I first sat down. I couldn’t believe how I felt. As I was walking to the car I told Laurie, we need to bring this to Johnson Creek. She looked at me like I was crazy. What she didn’t understand is how good I felt, and how scary it is when you have asthma sometimes it feels like this could be your last breath. I decided I needed to try it for a month to see if this was going to make a difference. I went two times a week for a month. I also could not believe it but, during that month I didn’t reach for my inhalers. Before halotherapy, I had two of them in my pockets at all times. The downfall of going to Halotherapy twice a week was the long drive to get there. Now my only challenge was to convince Laurie that we needed to bring this to the people in Jefferson County so they could have relief the respiratory conditions that they were facing. It didn’t take much convincing because she could see what a difference it made in my life. So construction began.
As allergy season is now approaching, I can feel my allergies starting to kick in. Luckily Breathe Salt and Sauna is now here and will bring relief for myself and other allergy sufferers. Currently, I go into the halotherapy session all stuffed up, sometimes with a headache. When I come out of the halotherapy session, I have a runny nose, but my headache is usually gone. I do the halotherapy two-three times a week. On days that I am short on time, I go into our private salt booth (pictured) for a 15-minute session. When I have more time and want to relax and take the stress of the day away, I go into our Adult salt room for a 45-minute session.
Since doing halotherapy, I FEEL GREAT! I have not had to carry my inhalers in my pocket since November. This spring I was able to cut the grass without feeling miserable. What a difference Halotherapy has made for me. Laurie and I want to bring wellness to people. Our goal is to help people feel better, give them alternatives.
