1What is salt therapy?
Halotherapy, also known as Salt Therapy, is a non-invasive, drug-free, chemical-free, all-natural solution used to ease breathing discomfort and promote healthy skin. With no potential health hazards and no known side-effects, Halotherapy is a comfortable and healing experience for adults and children alike. First discovered by the Ancient Greeks and further developed by Dr. Felix Bochkovsky in Poland in the mid-1800s, Salt Caves have been in-use throughout Europe for centuries to improve quality of life and ease symptoms related to health complications. Now, thanks to modern innovation, the healing powers of salt are much more accessible to everyone. Breathe Salt & Sauna recreates the salt cave experience in man-made, controlled microclimates, using the powerful anti-inflammatory properties of pharmaceutical grade salt that is pulverized and circulated through the air. Visitors enjoy calm and quiet salt sessions, using the time to reflect and relax while deeply breathing in the healing benefits of salt.
2How does salt therapy work?
Naturally cultivated, pure, pharmaceutical grade salt is heated and then crushed into microparticles. Halogenerators circulate the dry aerosol microparticles into salt rooms. During a salt therapy session, people breathe in the microparticles, which penetrate deep into the lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli. As the salt settles, it lands on skin and is absorbed more deeply into subcutaneous tissue. The effects are two-fold: easing breathing discomfort related to respiratory illness and promoting healthy skin while curbing symptoms related to epidermal complications.
3Why does salt therapy work?
Dry salt is absorbent, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory. Microscopic salt particles get deep into the respiratory system as well as into the skin. The dry salt absorbs all the excess mucus, allergens, and foreign elements in the respiratory system, opens constricted airways, and kills the spread of bacteria and viruses, both internally and on the skin.

8What do I wear in the salt rooms?
Our salt rooms gently circulate pulverized pharmaceutical grade salt into the air around you during your session. If you have skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, we encourage you to expose those areas to the salt during your time in the salt room. If you would like more privacy to expose your skin, we do offer ultra-private salt booths meant for single-user sessions.
Because the salt is very fine, it does land on clothing, but can be easily brushed off. Comfort is important when relaxing, so wear whatever makes you feel most at-ease. If you are wearing your business casual clothes during or after work, we do provide blankets to help keep the salt off, although it will not damage your clothing.
You are not allowed to wear shoes in our salt rooms, but bare feet or socks/ stockings are okay. We also provide foot covers if you would like to use them – just ask one of our Wellness Coordinators!
